So we're quickly approaching Easter weekend, and you may be turning your mind to what you will serve for Easter lunch. Or you may be having guests over for nibblies in the afternoon - especially if the weather stays so nice.
Here's a local Hunter Valley one that I recommend you try:
2014 Wombat Crossing 'The Creek Flat' Semillon
Here's what to expect:
A nice straw colour in the glass.
Very citrusy on the nose and the palate - I personally got a strong grapefruit taste.
We paired it with seafood risotto, but it would go well with any seafood - even better if it's fresh and cold (think fresh prawns or oysters) - or on its own.
It's crisp and refreshing. Perfect for a summer - or warm autumn - afternoon, on its own or paired with food.
I also highly recommend a visit to the Wombat Crossing cellar door! It's a small (single vineyard), boutique winery that quickly became one of our favourites.
What initially impressed us was their use of glassware to match the varietals. We had recently done a Riedel tasting where they demonstrated the benefits of using the right glass for the right wine, so this was fresh in our minds.
They make a beautiful Chardonnay, a lovely Shiraz and some fun Sparklings, including a Sparkling Shiraz that goes great with blue cheese in place of dessert. Wines are available for purchase through their cellar door or their website.
Have you tried this wine? What did you think? Leave a comment below or give me one of your recommendations for an afternoon glass of wine!
P.S. No, this isn't a paid partnership. In fact, I'm not being paid anything (not even wine!) to write these things. I will only recommend something if I am a fan of the product in question.
